I’m writing this note just before 10 PM on Friday night. This evening I finished my final message at Maranatha Bible Conference in Muskegon, Michigan. We had a wonderful week. For one thing, the weather was superb, even better than I remember from four years ago. Clear days, warm but not hot, low humidity, a slight breeze, conditions so …

I am writing this note from my room at Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference in Muskegon, Michigan. If you check the map, you’ll see that Muskegon is on the eastern short of Lake Michigan. The conference center owns a nice stretch of beach where families go to swim during the day. The main buildings are located just over a wooded hill tha…

Since this is my final day at home for three weeks, I decided to make a list things I need to do today. In no particular order . . . 1) Haircut.2) Ride my bike with Bert Duncan.3) Show Mark how to do make mp3 files from cassette tapes of my Christmas and Easter sermons.4) See if I can find those cassette tapes of Paul Smith teaching on 1 Corinthian…

We are having a busy, productive week at Word of Life in upstate New York. During my morning sessions I decided to preach from 1 Corinthians 13. It has been personally challenging to meditate on phrases such as love “does not envy, does not boast, is not proud, is not rude, does not seek its own, and is not easily provoked.” On Monday I…

I am writing this note at 10:54 PM from our hotel room in Colorado Springs. We just returned from the final service of the MEF Bible Conference. Tonight we heard a deeply moving message on forgiveness from Tom Eliff and then Erwin Lutzer spoke on “Is God On America’s Side?” Plus we had music by Russell Newport,John Hall, Scott Cam…

We’re up early this morning because we’ll be traveling all the day, partly because we’ve got a long way to go and partly because there is no quick way to get from Tupelo to Colorado Springs. All week long we (I mean Marlene mostly) have been packing and getting things ready for this first leg of our summer conference schedule…

The phone rang at two minutes after eight this morning. It was Nick calling on a satellite phone somewhere above 13,000 feet on the upper slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. We only talked for a few seconds and then the connection ended. Our intrepid climbers are evidently doing well so far. Marlene discovered that if you have Google Earth, you can not on…

That awesome mountain in the photograph is Kilimanjaro, tallest peak on the African continent. I have a particular interest in this mountain because one of my sons, two of my brothers, and a sister-in-law and two nieces will soon be climbing it. As I write these words all of them are en route to the great mountain. It all s …

This is Day 1 of the Memorial Day Family Weekend at Camp Forest Springs. As you can tell, we are in northern Wisconsin, not that far from the U.P.—the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and not that far from Lake Superior. This morning we ate breakfast with a couple from Merrill, a small town east of here. Mary is an Outdoor E …

At this moment we are somewhere in central Wisconsin—just south of Stevens Point, south of Wassau, about two hours away from Camp Forest Springs. Yesterday we drove 10+ hours to Chicago. Today we are driving another 6-7 hours to get to the camp. The trip itself has been uneventful. Central Wisconsin is absolutely beautiful …
