How Sally Meet Jesus

Dear Praying Friends,

Will you “walk across the room”?

Recently we met some friends who told us that during a Sunday School class, they were challenged to “walk across the room,” which meant taking a chance to share Jesus with others. Here’s what happened next:

Shortly afterwards, my husband looked out the window of our home and saw our friendly mail carrier, Sally, going door to door across the street delivering the mail. We had often exchanged greetings with Sally but did not know her well. My husband suddenly announced that he was going to, not walk across the room, but walk across the street to reach out to Sally.

He greeted her and asked if she was interested in spiritual things. Sally remarked that she had never gone to church and wasn’t at all familiar with the Bible, but said she sort of was interested in spiritual things now because of her concern about all the upheaval in the world. However, she didn’t know where to start.

The next day he gave her a copy of An Anchor for the Soul and told her that it would give her spiritual information about both HELP for the Present and HOPE for the Future. He suggested that she read it and , if she had questions, I would be happy to meet with her to talk about it.

Three weeks later Sally stopped to chat on her route and said that she really enjoyed reading An Anchor for the Soul and reached into her pocket to take out a page from that book that she had torn out and kept with her to read and think about. She showed my husband the page with the prayer that she had prayed in chapter 8 for Jesus to come into her heart to be her Lord and Savior. She said she just liked to remind herself of it during her mail route.

I gave her a Bible and invited her to come by once a week to discuss her questions. When she came, she said she understood the clear message presented in An Anchor for the Soul, but now had many questions as she was beginning to read through the Gospel of John. This began four months of weekly Bible studies with Sally on her day off, until she retired and moved to another area.

What a joy to see the light go on in our mail carrier’s life, as she entered into the Kingdom of God, when one person simply “walked across the street” to hand her a copy of An Anchor for the Soul and two of us prayed for her.

That story illustrates how you can share Christ with your friends. All you need to do is “walk across the room” and then see what God does next.

Since 2000 we have given away over 600,000 copies of An Anchor for the Soul. Thousands of people like Sally have come to faith in Christ through the faithful witness of friends who share this little “gospel book.” Everywhere we have gone this summer, we have met people who have used Anchor to share Christ. Would you join us in praying that God will multiply the effectiveness of our Anchor outreach so that many more men and women will come to faith in Christ?

This week we are at Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference in Muskegon, MI. Thank you for praying for us during our travels to Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Illinois, California, Oregon, and now back to Michigan again. Along the way we celebrated Nick and Sarah’s wedding in Chicago and said goodbye to Josh and Leah and Knox and Violet who have moved to China. When we were in California, we drove to Santa Rosa to see Mark and Vanessa and Eli and Penny. It has been a busy and blessed summer for us.

One final note. This Friday we celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We thank God for his faithfulness over all these years, and we look forward to all that is come.

Thank you for being part of the Keep Believing Prayer Team. Let us know how you are doing and how we can pray for you.

God bless you!

Ray and Marlene
