“Your Book Was Heaven Sent”

November 6, 2008

It’s been awhile since I’ve mentioned the Anchor Book Depot. That’s the arm of our ministry that provides free copies of our little “gospel book” called An Anchor for the Soul. For those who don’t know, it’s the gospel in “Wal-Mart English” for people who want to know how to go to heaven but don’t go to church and don’t know much about the Bible.

Portion of a letter from a prisoner in lock down.

This week I received a letter from an inmate in a New Mexico prison. Because he got in a fight, he was put in a “lock down” cell for 30 days. That means he is by himself for at least 23 hours every day. The guards gave him some of his belongings, which included a copy of “An Anchor for the Soul.” He said that before going to lock down, he had felt himself slipping down the wrong path for the last few months. He has been in prison for ten years–got out once and ended up behind bars again.

He wrote to thank me for writing the book and then he added, “This world is full of surprises.”

We are glad to make copies of An Anchor for the Soul available free of charge to military ministries, prison ministries, for disaster relief, and for compassion ministries, such as crisis pregnancy centers, homeless shelters and rescue missions. In the last eight years we have given away over 350,000 books. We currently have around 30,000 copies at our Book Depot in Chicago.

Send me an email if you could use copies of this little “gospel book” for one of the purposes I just mentioned. We donate the books, and we pay the postage. It’s hard to beat that deal.
