Wrapping Up the Weekend Conference

We just finished the “Why Did This Happen to Me”? conference at Word of Life Inn in Schroon Lake, New York. It turned out to be a powerful time of sharing and encouragement. Marlene and I did our first-ever team teaching during the conference, and it seemed to be a big hit. There is something very helpful about hearing a husband and wife speak together about a subject as close to the heart as suffering and the sovereignty of God. Every time Marlene spoke, the people listened intently. On Friday night she gave the introduction to the weekend. On Saturday morning she emceed the session and asked me a number of questions relating to prayer. Last night she shared the enduring lessons we learned from Nick’s illness and surgery six years ago. This morning she and I shared a question and answer session. During the Q&A she asked the questions, sometimes she chimed in with more information or told a story, and on more than one occasion she encouraged me to be “concise” in my answers, which made the audience chuckle. Yesterday we both agreed that we ought to do more of team speaking in the future. After the final session, Mike Bush, the director of Word of Life Inn, asked me if we would speak at a Couples Conference next year. We told him we’d be glad to speak at the conference October 19-21, 2007.
