The “Who” Question

January 8, 2010

A wise man gave me some advice on how to make good decisions:

Don’t ask, “Lord, what do want me to do?” or “Where do you want me to go?”
Instead you should ask, “Who do you want me to go with?”

Most of the time the “who” matters more than the “what” or the “where.” Not that the others don’t matter.

But the “who” usually is a deal-breaker.

If you don’t like the people around you, it doesn’t matter where you are.
And if you do like them, it doesn’t matter where you are.

Here’s a good test. When you get up in the morning, are you excited about the people you’re going to see at work?

If the answer is yes, you’re in a good place.
If the answer is no, you’ll be miserable no matter where you are.

Answer the “who” question and the “what,” “where” and “how” usually take care of themselves.
