The Next Great Awakening

January 4, 2008

Brian Bill passed along this quote from a summary of a book called Glocalization:

The next Great Awakening, and perhaps the last, most likely will be global in scope since the world has gone global. The medium will likely be the Internet, not the preacher in the pulpit.

Sounds right to me. Because the Internet levels the playing field, any church can now use technology in creative ways to multiply its impact. The key issue is intentionality. The churches at the edge of the revolution have fully embraced technology as part of the “glue” that holds the church together. More traditional churches still see it as a nice “extra” in addition to everything else. The tidal wave of change will soon move all churches toward more dependence on technology, not less.
