The New Worship Schedule

January 25, 2004

THE NEW WORSHIP SCHEDULE by Ray Pritchard Elsewhere in today’s bulletin you’ll find an announcement for the new worship schedule that begins Sunday, March 21. Here are the highlights: 1. We will have three worship hours on Sunday morning: 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. 2. The worship schedule in the Sanctuary will be 8:30 a.m. Traditional Service 10:00 a.m. Contemporary Service 11:30 a.m. Contemporary Service 3. Each service will be 70 minutes long with 20 minutes between services. 4. This is exactly the same schedule we followed before we switched to the four-service format in February 2002. 5. We are adding a fourth worship service to the newly-renovated gym. This service will take place at 10:00 a.m. 6. This means that at 10:00 a.m. we will have two services at the same time–one in the Sanctuary and one in the gym. 7. Both services will feature live worship led by a praise band. 8. I will preach in the Sanctuary and the sermon will be simulcast on a big screen in the gym. 9. The net result is that we will have four services during three worship hours, with each service being ten minutes longer than our current format, with 20 minutes between services instead of the current 15 minutes. 10. One additional note: We are calling the gym “The Upper Room,” and the new service will be called “The Upper Room Service.” We want to use “The Upper Room Service” to unleash a new generation of leadership at Calvary. Over the past five years hundreds of new people have started attending Calvary. Our goal in starting this new service is to tap those new people in our congregation and give them a chance to help in the new service. In the weeks to come, you’ll hear many calls for volunteers. Think of it this way: We’ll gladly accept help from anyone and from everyone–young and old, male or female, newcomer or longtime attendee. But if you have started attending Calvary in the last few years, and if you’re not already involved in a ministry somewhere, we hope you’ll consider helping out. We need ushers, greeters, sound technicians, video technicians, camera operators, vocalists, instrumentalists, drama personnel, security personnel, “road crew,” nursery workers, ABF leaders, extra youth and children’s workers, parking attendants, and we’ll need a group of dedicated folks who are willing to help out wherever they are needed. If you think about it, this is a huge undertaking in many ways. It’s the first time we’ve offered a regular worship service outside the Sanctuary. It’s the first time we’ve run simultaneous worship services. It’s the first time we’ve combined live worship and a simulcast sermon. And it’s the first time we’ve intentionally aimed a service at “unleashing a new generation of leaders.” God has blessed us with an abundance of talented people who want to serve the Lord. If you are new to Calvary, this is your chance to get involved. Stay tuned for more information.
