The Most Important Thing You Can Do

September 25, 2009

Each week we receive an email update from Greg and Carolyn Kirschner, our dear friends who are serving as medical missionaries in Jos, Nigeria during the last half of 2009. I was struck by their comments at the end of the update about the importance of prayer:

When questioned about the most important commandments, Jesus basically told his followers that they were to love God and love their neighbors. We believe that the best way to begin the observation of these commands is in prayer. Prayer is not magic. It is not manipulating God. But prayer is about obediently communicating with the living, personal God who desires relationship with us. Actually praying is about trusting that God exists; that God hears prayer; that God delights in prayer; and that God’s activity in the world is somehow linked with our relating to Him in prayer.

And so, the most important thing you can do for Nigeria this week, and the most important thing you can do for America this week, and the most important thing you can do for yourself and your family this week: Pray.
