The 60/60 Experiment

February 9, 2009

This morning Brian Bill announced a new idea called the 60/60 Experiment. It goes like this.

1) Set the chime on your watch (or your iPhone) to go off every hour on the hour. The chime reminds you that God is with you every moment of every day. Now here’s the cool part. When you hear the chime, you pray, “Lord, thanks for being with me. What do you have for me right now?” Neat, simple prayer that promotes openness before the Lord. It’s a good reminder to stay flexible in your daily planning.

2) Seek to meet one new person each day for 60 days. This promotes awareness. It’s really not hard to meet new people if you just open your eyes and stop focusing on your own agenda. So you pray, “Lord, who do you have for me to meet today?” It could be a nurse or a jogger or a new student in your history class or it could be someone you meet at Wal-Mart. When you meet that new person, introduce yourself and strike up a conversation. This isn’t really about evangelism. It’s about friendship and community and connecting with people around you.

We could all use more openness and awareness. Maybe we should all join the 60/60 Experiment. The hardest part will be figuring out how to make your watch or iPhone chime every hour.
