Surprise Me by Joy Today

A friend ended a recent email with this helpful paragraph:
Finally, may I share with you a prayer request that I have been asking of the Lord for the last few months. Lord, surprise me by joy today. Then I look forward all day long for something joyful each new day, and I thank God for his goodness. I am thinking about adding the other fruit of the Spirit, on different days.
Lord, surprise me by your love today, or Lord show me your peace today. Perhaps this prayer would be unique; Lord, surprise me with long suffering.
I like that a lot. “Surprise me by joy today.” We would all experience more joy if we starting praying about it and looking for it.
