Hallelujah Chorus Breaks Out at Macy’s

December 7, 2015

I have posted this every Christmas for the last few years. This is where the Hallelujah Chorus belongs–not just in church, but out in the world, where the people are. What a revelation to see these busy holiday shoppers brought to a standstill by the majestic music from Handel’s Messiah. When I watch this video, I want to stand and cheer because the world needs to know that “He shall reign forever and ever.”

By the way, the organ at Macy’s in Center City Philadelphia is the largest pipe organ in the world. That’s the former location of Wanamaker’s Department Store, founded by John Wanamaker, a fervent evangelical Christian (and friend of D. L. Moody) who was an early leader in the Sunday School movement. I have no doubt that Mr. Wanamaker would heartily approve of the Hallelujah Chorus being played in the store he founded in 1910.

The only thing I have to add is that it’s been a long, hard year for many people. The world seems to be getting worse, not better. We need the Hallelujah Chorus more than ever. Listen and be blessed.
