Sermons at Sierra Bible Church

October 17, 2007

In my last message at Reno, I promised the congregation that I would post the text of my five messages on knowing God’s will. Here they are:

Meanwhile here is a list of summary statements that I intended to read before my final sermons but didn’t get around to it. These quotes sum up the sermons I preached at Reno on knowing God’s will:

We make our decisions and our decisions turn around and make us.
Knowing God’s will is God’s problem—not yours
God wants you to know his will more than you do.

If you want to do God’s will, you will do it.
No way to get 100% certainty.

Best for us know to know our personal future.
He’s God and We’re Not

He gives us enough light to take the next step.
God wants you to holy and when you are holy, you will be happy.

Get to know the character of God.

“Heavenly Father, you are in charge of everything that will happen to me today–whether it be good or bad, positive or negative. Please make me thankful for everything that happens to me today. Amen.”

When I pray, “Your will be done,” I am asking for God’s will to prevail over my will.

Our biggest problem is not, Is there a God? But Does He Care for Me?

Hold lightly what you value greatly. It isn’t yours anyway!

What are you holding on to too tightly?

Only two prayers in the universe: “Your will be done” or “My will be done.”

O Lord, Your will be done–
nothing more,
nothing less,
nothing else.
Amen.

Christianity is a religion of miracles.

When God works a miracle, he’s not just doing something. He’s also saying something.

“God does work miracles, but it is presumptuous to anticipate them.”

Miracles are not about us.
Miracles are about God.

When hard times come, your starting point makes all the difference. If you start with you, you’ll end with you, and you won’t be any better off. If you start with God, you’ve got the only framework for facing the trials of life.

God doesn’t limit himself to our understanding of what our loved ones need most.
We serve a God who is bigger than all our unanswered questions.

Let God be God and all will be well.

God intends to make sure that all his children make it safely home to heaven.

If you will know God in every area of your life, he will take personal responsibility to make your way smooth and straight.

He will take the path of your life that seems to go up and down and around and sometimes seems to curve backwards, and he will make your way straight. That’s the promise of Almighty God to you.

“Faith means believing in advance what will only make sense in reverse.”

The world says, “Seeing is believing.” God says, “Believing is seeing.” We believe, therefore we see.

What difference will this make in 10,000 years?

God rewards those who show regard for him by leading them straight to the right end and removing all the obstacles along the way.

When you need to know, you’ll know. If God is God, that must be true.
