Retreating We Will Go

May 15, 2009

From the June 2006 board retreat. L-R Dave Hoy, Ray Pritchard, MaryAnn Spiegel, Peter Faulkner, Cliff Raad. And Dudley!

In just a few minutes Marlene and I will be driving to Memphis to catch a flight to Chicago for the Keep Believing board retreat that begins tonight. This is the fourth time we’ve met together like this. In June 2006 the board came to Tupelo for a weekend retreat. That was back when we lived in the cabin in the woods, and we were so far out in the country that Cliff and Phyllis Raad couldn’t find us so I drove out to the Natchez Trace to lead them in.

Then we met once in McHenry, IL and in Tupelo last year, this time at our home in town. In the 16 months since our last retreat, a lot has happened, including the launch of our new website, the establishment of a China task force, a new printing of Anchor for the Soul in Chinese, the Pentagon Prayer Breakfast, the KBM Open House in Chicago, and the start of our prayer ministry and major refinements to our website.

Besides taking care of the details of the ministry, we’re going to focus this weekend on seeking God’s vision for KBM. We couldn’t have imagined all that God has done in the last three years. And we have plenty to do right now. But we don’t want to simply be busy doing good things. We want “Kingdom growth” that advances the cause of Christ.

We’ve built in plenty of time for laughing, talking and sharing. On the agenda that Dave Hoy sent out, the Saturday night session includes five different business items. Following that at 9 PM Dave has written “Tom Foolery and general horsing around (in that order).” I’m very glad to be part of a ministry where we can take time to have some fun together.

So we’re off to Chicago in just a few minutes.  I hope you’ll pray for the KBM board as we meet together this weekend.
