On the Road to New York

March 10, 2008

This morning–in about 18 minutes, in fact–Marlene and I are driving to Birmingham where we will catch a Southwest flight to Albany, NY where someone will pick us up and drive us 75 miles north to Pottersville, in the Adirondack Mountains, on the south end of Schroon Lake, where I will be teaching Galatians Tuesday-Thursday to 400+ students at Word of Life Bible Institute.

By the way, if any of the students happen to read this blog, let me tell you in advance that I want everyone in my class to make an A. That’s right. So during my lectures I’m going to tell you what’s on the quizzes and the final exam. No kidding. Every year I say that and every year some students don’t believe me. When I make the flashing light sign with my hands, that means I’m giving you something that will be on the quiz.

And when I draw a circle in the air and say, “Where am I right now?” the answer is not “Word of Life Bible Institute.” It’s Asia Minor.

I don’t use Power Point. I just tell them, “I am my own Power Point.” I make time lines, draw in the air, use students to act out Abraham’s walk of faith, and generally just turn the front of the lecture hall into a huge stage.

To me there is nothing more exciting than teaching God’s Word and nothing better than teaching it to students who are eager to take it in.

Gotta run. We leave for the airport in 6 minutes.
