On My Way to LA

September 19, 2011

Today I’m flying to Los Angeles to take part in the Church Institute at Mt Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. When I received this invitation a few months ago from Pastor George Hurtt, I was glad to accept because he asked me to speak on one of my favorite topics–expository preaching. I’ll lead a workshop on preaching Monday-Wednesday, and I’ll also give a brief talk in the evening service each night.

The main message in the evening services will be given by my good friend, Pastor H. B. Charles, Jr., whose father pastored Mt. Sinai for many years. H.B. followed his father as pastor at Mt. Sinai until a few years ago when he became the Senior Pastor at Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Pastor Charles also serves on the Board of Reference of Keep Believing Ministries.

In 2007 I preached at Mt. Sinai shortly before the church moved to a new location. Since the relocation the church has continued to grow. I’m always glad to return to Los Angeles where we spent five years right out of seminary pastoring a church in suburban Downey. And I feel very honored to take part in the Church Institute and to spend time with Pastor Hurtt and the congregation at Mt. Sinai.
