Next Stop: Montreal

November 5, 2010

Detroit Airport
Gate C 11

I am writing this quick note before we board the plane for our flight to Montreal. We’re on our way to a tremendous conference called Missions Globales. We haven’t been to Montreal since 2007, a trip made forever memorable because I forgot our passports. Back then you could still enter Canada without a passport (barely). We managed to get there by flying to Burlington, VT, and then driving across the border. You could do that then. But not any more. This time we have our passports in hand.

Montreal is one of the most beautiful cities in North America. Unfortunately our schedule is so packed that we won’t have time for any sightseeing. I’m speaking six times on Saturday and Sunday–three times at the conference on Saturday and then three times on Sunday at two different churches. Marlene will speak to a seminar session tomorrow morning.

Probably no city in Canada poses more challenges to evangelical Christianity than Montreal because of the prevailing secular unbelief. Many of the Quebec evangelical churches tend to be quite small so it’s a great thing for them to come together for a conference like this.

On a side note, Marlene said that this is the fourth time we’ve been in the Detroit airport in the last four weeks. Seems like we should get extra points for that. But as airports go, I like Detroit. It’s clean and spacious, with wide concourses and lots of places to eat.  We’ll be through here again on Monday, and that’s it for the year, unless something else comes up, which probably won’t happen but you never know.

Pray for us and for all the other speakers and for the musicians and the many volunteers. Pray for God’s Spirit to move upon all who attend this conference to fill us with new vision for God’s work in Montreal and around the world.
