Love and Respect
October 20, 2007
When Marlene spoke to the women tonight, she recommended Love and Respect by Emerson Eggerichs. Turns out that several of the women at the conference have read it also. We started reading it the other day, and I can offer my opinion very simply.
Marlene started reading it while we were in Reno. I read part of it on the plane ride back to Tupelo and then I read more of it on the way to New York. On almost every page, I would stop and say, “Yes, that’s right.” Eggerichs nails the fundamental, God-given difference between men and women, and he does it in ways that are convicting, humorous, touching, challenging and inspiring.
I wish I had read it 25 years ago, which was impossible since it was published three years ago. But if I had, I would have been a better husband. Marlene and I have been practicing some of the things he recommends, and it really works.
We like the book so much we’re going to buy copies for two young couples we happen to know and love very much. We already told Mark and Vanessa about it, and Josh and Leah, if you happen to read this blog, you’ll get the book as soon as we can send it to China.
