Lord’s Prayer Book Now Online

October 15, 2009

A few years ago I wrote a book on the Lord’s Prayer called “And When You Pray.” When I finished writing it, I came away deeply impressed with how profound this little prayer is. If someone asks, “What does Christian prayer look like?” the answer is, “It looks like the Lord’s Prayer.” Everything that is legitimate to pray about can be found in this prayer.

Because the book has been out of print for several years, I decided to update it a bit and add it to the KBM website. I did some light editing, but the heart of the book remains as I wrote it. I posted it as a series of 12 sermons. You’ll notice that each message (originally chapters in the book) has a section called “Before We Begin,” then there is a closing prayer, “A Truth to Remember,” a section called “Going Deeper,” and an “Action Step.” I wrote it that way so the book could be used for personal study or by Sunday School classes or small groups.

You can find it online at And When You Pray: The Deeper Meaning of the Lord’s Prayer. Here are the individual sections:

Invitation to the Heart of God
God Our Father
Taking God Seriously
Kingdoms in Conflict
Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else
Daily Bread Living
Unless You Forgive
Does God Lead His Children Into Temptation?
Deliver Us From Evil
Praying From the Footnotes
Lord’s Prayer People
Singing Through the Lord’s Prayer

We’re happy to provide these resources for pastors, missionaries, Christian workers, Sunday School teachers, and anyone else who can use them. As with the rest of the material on the KBM website, please use this material in any way you like. If you want to help us, you can provide a link back to this website. Linking back to KBM helps us build our traffic by introducing new people to our resources.

May these messages on the Lord’s Prayer lead us to the very heart of God.
