Letter Carriers and Chinese Scholars

May 7, 2011

Recently I received an email with some encouraging stories of how God is using An Anchor for the Soul in the US and in China. Here is part of the email, with a few identifying details changed and a couple of sentences highlighted:

We haven’t met but I have been blessed by your teaching and have given your book An Anchor for the Soul, to several people, including our mail carrier Jackie, who read it and prayed to receive Jesus as her Savior and Lord. Jackie had no church background. One day my husband asked her if she was interested in spiritual things and she replied that she didn’t know much but was now interested in learning more. So after two weeks I watched for Jackie on the street and went out to ask her if she would like to come by on her day off to talk about what she had learned from the book. She took out the page with the prayer and said she had understood it and prayed the prayer. After that she just was carrying the prayer in her pocket to read it during her day.

Since then, she has come to our home each week on her day off and we have gone through the book of John, verse by verse, and she is so open to the truth and getting to know God and His will for her life better.

Last year when my husband and I were leading discussion on Sunday afternoons for Chinese graduate students concerning how people from Western culture think (we did an overview of the bible geared to those who were from another culture), I also had opportunity to give your book to several Chinese scholars who later returned to China. One man who is now a professor in China sent us an e-mail to say that time of learning was the most important time he spent in the US. He told us that he couldn’t pray the prayer until after he finished his PhD as he would have to answer political questions before his final exam. Another woman who works in the Chinese media took the book and read it. When we met for coffee later, she said she was going to take it and other material we gave her back to China and think about it as it was a very important decision.

So, from our mail carrier to highly educated Chinese scholars, the Holy Spirit is using the truth in your book to draw people into the kingdom. What a thrill it is to watch for opportunities to give it to people.

We continue to be amazed at how God uses this little “gospel book.” On Tuesday at the pastors conference in Brunswick, Maine I told the pastors and wives that our ministry is like the ordnance depot of the body of Christ. We take the ammo and pass it up to the soldiers on the front line. One man came up and said he wanted to give a copy of Anchor to every firefighter in Maine. We would love to help him do that.

This letter shows how God can use the book to touch people from very different walks of life. Please join us in praying for more partnerships we can form so that we can give away more books so that we can reach more people for Christ. All for God’s glory!
