Late Night Notes

April 9, 2008

A few notes, quickly, before going to bed for a few hours …

2) We are still having trouble getting the sermon email delivered. A few weeks ago I mentioned that we were having trouble with AOL treating them as spam and blocking them before they ever get to the inbox. That problem seems to be solved. But we know now that Hotmail and MSN are doing the same thing. That means over 500 people on the sermon list aren’t getting the emails. They just aren’t showing up. Many of you have written to me asking, “What happened to the sermons?” The answer is, I’m still sending them out but some of the big companies are treating them as spam. BTW, we get good results with Gmail so if you happen to have an Gmail address (lots of people have two or three email addresses), let us know and we’ll send the sermons there. We hope to have a more permanent solution in a few weeks.

3) Marlene and I happened to tune in for the last five minutes of “Idol Gives Back” tonight. We were blown away by the American Idols ending the show by singing “Shout to the Lord.” Very powerful and very effective because it was so unexpected.

4) In a few hours we leave for Chicago. From looking at the weather radar, I think we’re going to be in heavy rain most of the day. And get this. The forecast calls for a chance of snow Friday night. Ah, April snow in Chicago. It’s a beautiful thing. We’re pulling out the sweaters we had already put away.

5) By the way, I’m doing a radio interview on WMBI-AM (note the AM, not FM), 1110 AM, with my good friend Roy Patterson at 3:30 PM Friday. His program is called Urban Praise.

6) One more detail and then it’s time to go to bed. This Sunday I’m speaking at Village Bible Church in Sugar Grove at 9:30 AM. My sermon is called “Why God Chooses Splendid Sinners and Lovable Losers” from 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. If you are in area, we would love to have you join us.
