I’m Not Lance Armstrong

February 24, 2006

Yesterday we drove to Nashville for a quick visit with Marlene’s brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Ruth Wolery. Both of them teach at Vanderbilt University. Mark is a professor in Early Childhood Special Education, and Ruth heads the Susan Gray School. Today Marlene and Ruth are at the school and then out and about in Nashville. Mark and Ruth live on a high wooded hill southwest of the city. Yesterday I tried climbing it with my bike, and I made it, sort of, but only by starting and stopping, and having one fall to the pavement in the process. It was by far the steepest hill I’ve ever had to climb. Lance Armstrong wouldn’t have any problems with it, but I’m not Lance Armstrong. Not that anyone ever thought that I was.
We’re getting up at 4:30 AM tomorrow to drive to Word of Life Florida, about 40 minutes north of Tampa.
