Hope’s Journey

April 24, 2010

On our flight from Amsterdam to Atlanta I listened to the audio of a sermon called “Hopes’ Journey” that Bryan Chapell gave at Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. I think it’s one of the finest sermons I’ve ever heard. Chapell makes a compelling case that it’s not enough to teach people doctrine and duty. We’re pretty good about that. True Christian preaching gives people hope that enables them to endure because they know God keeps his promises and is merciful to his people.

Since this message was part of a lectureship on preaching, the first few minutes of the video discuss various kinds of sermons. The message itself begins at about the eight minute mark of the video.
