Helping a Christian School in Uganda

April 7, 2010

In just 24 hours our team leaves for Africa. We’ll be gone 16 days, half of that time in Uganda and half in Kenya. In both countries we’ll be working with Word of Life, the international youth ministry headquartered in Schroon Lake, New York.

Several weeks ago Thomas Obunde who heads up Word of Life Uganda asked if we could bring over some books for his kids. We said we would be glad to. It ended up being 400 pounds of book because we are bringing over the entire curriculum for the whole school next year.

That sent us to the Tupelo airport on Monday where we conferred with the good folks who work for Delta Airlines. After checking things out, they said we could carry the books as extra cargo. It will cost some money, of course, but through the generosity of some friends, we’ve already got that covered.

Yesterday Marlene and Linda Hale met to pack the books. They rounded up some old suitcases and started packing and weighing to make sure they stayed under 50 pounds per bag.

It’s all done and the books are ready to go. And some children in Uganda will be happy next fall when they see these books for the first time.
