Here’s a portion of a handwritten letter we received yesterday from a prisoner in a California jail. He is facing life in prison. In his own words, this is his story:
The reason for this unexpected letter is to inform you that your book An Anchor for the Soul led me to Christ. I am a born-again believer now … Your book came at the right time because I was without hope in this life … I was lost and confused, all alone in this miserable cell, filled with bitterness, anger, and frustration.
I was seriously contemplating suicide, but then someone slipped your book under the door. At first, I didn’t want to pick it up. I just stared at it for several minutes until something urged me to reach out to it. I now know it was God.
I started read it slowly, taking in every word, but by the time I reached the middle of the book, I was covered in tears. The rest is history. I know my name is written in the Book of Life in heaven as I now serve my Lord Jesus Christ with my whole heart and soul.
He signed the letter, “Your brother in Christ.”
He’s in a county jail in California. We have no idea how a copy of Anchor ended up in his hands. It doesn’t matter. We’re glad to be one link in the chain that led to his salvation.
Aren’t you glad that the gospel reaches past prison walls and behind bars? The gospel is still the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, even a prisoner in a California jail.
