Happy Days Are Here Again

July 7, 2008

Happy days are here again . . .

1) Marlene and I arrived in Tupelo about 3:30 PM, wrapping up a sixteen-day trip that took us to Colorado, New York and North Carolina. We are tired tonight and grateful for the open doors for ministry that God gave us as we traveled. When we woke up this at 5:30 AM this morning in Cary, NC, Marlene smiled and said, “We’re going home today.” That’s always a good feeling.

2) Josh and Leah arrived in Tupelo about 5 PM. Two weeks ago they finished a year as English teachers in China. When they returned to the States, they visited Leah’s parents in Vermont, then drove to Chicago where they shared about their year in China with the Friendship Class at Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park. Josh and Leah look and sound great.

3) Mark and Vanessa came over a little later and we had pizza and spent the evening laughing and talking and telling stories.

4) We talked with Nick earlier today. I hope he can come over from Birmingham while Josh and Leah are here.

5) When we arrived, Dudley and Gary, our two fine basset hounds, came running to greet us. Dudley wouldn’t stop barking and both dogs jumped on me. To me that’s a fine way to be welcomed home—by having two basset hounds jumping all over you. At this moment Gary and Dudley are stretched out on the carpet next to my chair. If I leave the room, they will follow me wherever I go and then flop down next to me. How can you be more welcomed than that?
