Good Words for Today
You can always be faithful if you can’t be anything else. It’s good to win the victory, but if you can’t do that, don’t give up without a fight.
When you pray “Thy kingdom come,” you must of necessity also pray “My kingdom go.” God’s kingdom cannot “come” unless your kingdom is going to “go.”
We must be willing to offend when eternal issues are at stake. There is no way to tell the truth without offending people who don’t believe in truth.
The gift of God is eternal life. Tell a friend. Don't go to heaven alone.
“I don’t think you need to be afraid of life. Our hearts are very frail; and there are places where the road is very steep and very lonely. But we have a wonderful God.” A. J. Gossip
He’s God and we’re not. This is the ultimate self-evident truth. If you forget it, God will remind you.
"People laugh at your unwholesome talk at the moment but think less of you afterwards." Andree Seu
We remember Abraham primarily because he waited on God. If he had to wait, it should not surprise us that we will often have to wait for the fulfillment of our dreams and the answer to our prayers. By faith Abraham waited. What about you?
You may lose your wealth, your health, your happiness, and your friends. But no one can take Jesus away from you.
In 1839 two men from the London Missionary Society landed in the New Hebrides, a chain of eighty islands in the South Pacific. Those two missionaries were killed and eaten by cannibals in November of that year. Eventually other missionaries came and the gospel began to take root on some of the islands. Nineteen years later a young man named John Paton set sail for the New Hebrides. When he announced his desire to go, a Mr. Dickson exploded, “The cannibals! You will be eaten by cannibals!” But to this Paton responded: "Mr. Dickson, you are advanced in years now, and your own prospect is soon to be laid in the grave, there to be eaten by worms; I confess to you, that if I can but live and die serving and honoring the Lord Jesus, it will make no difference to me whether I am eaten by Cannibals or by worms; and in the Great Day my Resurrection body will rise as fair as yours in the likeness of our risen Redeemer."
Lord, give me the grace to keep on doing what you called me to do even when I'd rather be doing something else. Amen.

Sometimes Christians worry about whether their faith is strong enough to take them to heaven. They get scared and say, “I’m hanging on to Jesus. But what if I lose my grip?” That can happen. If your salvation depends upon your hanging onto Jesus, you could be in trouble. It's like a little child who is hanging onto his father’s finger. The child is doing well until he begins to slip. As he falls, the child accidentally lets go of the father’s finger. But when the father reaches down, he doesn’t grab a finger. He grabs a hand. You are not going to heaven because you are holding on to Jesus. You’re going to go to heaven because Jesus is holding on to you.

Becoming like Jesus doesn't mean a slightly improved personality. It means a whole new you.
"When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, 'If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt'" (Exodus 13:17). God knows what we need even when we think we have a better plan. There are no shortcuts to the Promised Land. The easy way and God's way are generally two different things.
