Good Words for Today

Is Jesus enough for you? I don’t know of any truth more important, more satisfying, or more liberating than the great truth that for those who know Jesus Christ, there is no condemnation.

Lord, I do not pray for more faith. I ask instead for greater confidence in your faithfulness. Amen.

Before you get mad at your critics, pray for them. They couldn't criticize you if God didn't permit it. Pray for them, learn from them, commit them to the Lord, and then get moving.

Just because your life is messy doesn't mean God has messed up your life.

God knows what he’s doing in my life when I don’t have a clue.

Christ is all we need for salvation. Christ is all we need for the Christian life. Christ is all we need at the moment of death. Christ is all we need, now and forever.

"When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie, My grace, all-sufficient, shall be thy supply. The flames shall not hurt thee; I only design Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine." Hold on to this truth because you may need it before this day is done.

It is not arrogant to tell the truth to someone who doesn't want to hear it. But even if we are arrogant, the truth is still true. Get rid of the arrogance, but don't get rid of the truth.

The people who bother us most are the people most like us. Until we grasp that, we'll never get rid of the telephone pole sticking out of our eye.

Sin does not cease to be sinful just because it has become fashionable.

When you wrestle with a pig, don't be surprised when you end up covered in mud.

Lord, we pray today for all those lost in the darkness of sin. We pray for those who feel there is no hope. May the light of Jesus shine in their hearts today. Amen.

A pastor in Ghana read my sermon on "The Salt and Light Revolution" and sent me a note that included this sentence:   "It is time for Christian Revolution indeed, not with guns and ammunition but with our holy and righteous lives."   Amen! And may that revolution start with you and me today.

Lord, in these busy days, may I never be too busy for you. Amen

God measures time not by our watch but by his wisdom.   He's never early. He's never late. He's always right on time.

"We ought always to pray, and not to faint" (Luke 18:1). The greatest men and women of prayer are not those who are eloquent but those who keep on praying when others give up.   Keep on praying! That's the good word for today.

"So he gave them what they asked for, but he sent a plague along with it" (Psalm 106:15).   Be careful what you pray for.

"Come home, come home Ye who are weary come home Earnestly, tenderly Jesus is calling Calling, 'O sinner come home.'"

Lord Jesus, so many of us have been sleepwalking through life, going through the motions, and ignoring the needs around us. Teach us to count our days and then teach us to make our days count. Wake us up, Lord! Shake us up! Do it for our good and your glory. Amen.

Plan for today:  Less grumbling, more gratitude. Less worry, more prayer. Less fear, more faith.

Gracious Lord, save us from investing in things which will not last. Help us to live so that in 10,000 years we will have no regrets. Amen.

Will anyone be glad to see you in heaven? Will anyone hug your neck and say, “Thanks for making sure I got here?”

Lord Jesus, I pray for faith to trust you even when I think I have a better plan. Amen.

You don't have to push yourself forward. God knows your name. He knows where you are. He knows what is best. Let God lead and all will be well.

When God wants to show us his will, he gives us a flashlight, not a road map. We are given just enough light to peer into the darkness and take the next step.

When you invite the devil in, don't be surprised when he doesn't want to leave.

It's not wrong to plow a field, but if your plowing keeps you from Jesus, you'd better burn the plow.

God's call most often comes in the midst of our daily routine. He called David while he was tending his father's sheep. He called Peter when he was a fisherman and Matthew when he was a tax collector. We are far more likely to encounter God by getting out of bed and getting busy doing our job than if we stay in bed waiting for a dream or a vision.

You are not in a position to estimate your own effectiveness. When you think you have won, don't be so sure. When you think you have failed, let God render the final verdict.

All other ground is sinking sand.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for mercy that reaches us in our most desperate moments and never lets go. Amen.

The only obedience that counts with God is complete obedience. Partial obedience is just another name for disobedience.

"The fool vents all his feelings, but the wise person keeps them to himself" (Proverbs 29:11). You don't have to say everything you're thinking, and most of the time you shouldn't.

You’ll never know if Jesus has the power to help you until you really need his help. You’ll never know if Jesus is with you until you decide to go somewhere in his name.
