Good Words for Today
Generosity is measured not by what we give but by what we keep for ourselves.
Who needs a good word from you? Say it. Who needs your wisdom? Share it. Who needs your love? Give it.
Worship is not preparation for warfare; worship is warfare. Every time we worship, we re-enlist in the Lord’s army.
"Don't let the sun go down on your anger" (Ephesians 4:26). There is a divine time limit on your anger. Ignore it at your own peril.
"This is God’s universe, and God does things his way. You may have a better way, but you don’t have a universe." J. Vernon McGee
Never stop praying for your prodigal. Prayer can reach them when nothing else can.
"In all the world around me I see His loving care And though my heart grows weary I never will despair I know that He is leading, through all the stormy blast The day of His appearing will come at last"
Does prayer make a difference with God? Yes, prayer makes a difference with God when prayer makes a difference with us. If you want your prayers to change things, let them first change you—your habits, your schedule, your priorities, your daily routine, and your inward focus. When that happens, your prayers will be like arrows that hit their target in heaven.
All spiritual decisions are personal issues. There is a battle between truth and falsehood, and the battle is being won or lost one heart at a time. It won't do to say, "I believe in Jesus, but I also believe in Buddha." You've got to take a stand one way or the other.
Better days are coming. But they aren’t here yet. Until then, keep looking up. And don’t build your life around the things of this world.
“Long ago I ceased to count heads. Truth is usually in the minority in this evil world!” Charles Spurgeon
When the devil whispers in your ear, “You’re rotten. You’re no good. You're a bum,” tell him, "You're right. I am a bum, but God still loves me, Jesus died for me, his blood covers all my sins, and that makes me a forgiven bum and a child of the King. Leave me alone!"
Grace that only works when we are good is no grace at all. We need grace that runs to us when we have acted stupidly for the 47th time. We need “47th time” grace, and that’s what we have in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Child of God . . . Remember His mercy. Go and be merciful.
Lord, put me in over my head so that I will learn to trust in you alone. Amen.
"Death used to be an executioner, but the gospel has made him just a gardener." George Herbert
In due time and at the proper moment, Jesus will step back on the stage of world history. The hands that were nailed to the cross will someday rule the world.
"Bring forth the royal diadem, And crown Him Lord of all!"
Fear not, child of God, for the plan of the ages is in the hand of Almighty God. Look to Jesus and no matter what happens around you, your future will be secure.
One day we’ll stand together before the throne of God and praise our Redeemer for his amazing grace. When that glad day finally comes, no one will have any regrets. When you see Jesus, you’ll never regret serving the Lord. You’ll only wish you could have done more.
Sometimes we grow weary in the service of the Lord and wonder if our efforts are in vain. God says, “You plant the seed and let me take care of the harvest.”
"Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all."
My God, give me faith to obey even when I don't understand all the details. Amen.
In 1876 Daniel Roberts wrote a hymn to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It became popular and soon was sung across America. "God of Our Fathers" remains one of the best statements of the spirit that animated the men who declared their independence from England 244 years ago. Here are the words to the second verse: "Thy Love divine hath led us in the past. In this free land by thee our lot is cast. Be thou our ruler, guardian, guide, and stay. Thy Word Our Law, thy Paths our chosen ways." May that prayer come true in our day!
No one ever got better by making excuses.
So many people live in defeat because they can’t climb the steep mountain before them. Just remember this: You don’t have to climb the mountain. You just have to take the next step with God. He’ll take care of the rest.
Take a good look at the God you worship. Is he big enough to handle your problems? If not, then you need to look up and get a new view of God—the Lord of Heaven's Armies.
"What I give him, he takes. What he takes, he cleanses. What he cleanses, he fills. What he fills, he uses." J. Sidlow Baxter
"Let us then be true and faithful, Trusting, serving every day; Just one glimpse of Him in glory Will the toils of life repay."
We cannot compel our children to believe in Jesus. But we can make it easier or we can make it harder. God help us to make it easy for them to follow us as we follow Christ.
"But Daniel resolved not to defile himself" (Daniel 1:8). It is possible to live a pure life in the midst of a thoroughly pagan world. Daniel did. You can too.
"We live with the hunger for truth, love, justice, and forgiveness. There is only one place in the world where these hungers converge: it is in the Cross of Christ, where perfect love and perfect justice became united one Friday afternoon." Ravi Zacharias
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Do not pray for success. Pray for faithfulness. If you are successful but not faithful, you have wasted your life. If you are faithful, you are already a success in God's eyes.
When we stand for Jesus, Jesus stands with us. There is a blessing reserved for the bold that cowards never know. That’s all we need to know. The rest is up to God.
"Because the sinless Savior died My sinful soul is counted free For God the Just is satisfied To look on Him and pardon me"
Don't judge God by what you see today. He's not finished yet!
If Jesus is with you, you are safer in the furnace than anyplace else on earth.
"If you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace" (Daniel 3:15). Sometimes the path of faithfulness leads to the fiery furnace. Will we still follow the Lord?
Keep praying. The answer is on the way. Don't give up now.
