“When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan” (Proverbs 29:2).
True leadership always begins with character—a fact we overlook to our own peril. The real power of politics comes from the moral character of the person holding high office. Although a leader may hide behind opinion polls and a favorable economy, in the end what he or she is will eventually be found out. No one can escape the moral dimensions of leadership.
