Too much knowledge can be a dangerous thing at Christmastime. If we think, “I’ve heard all this before,” we risk becoming like the scribes who knew just enough to miss the birth of Jesus altogether.
The lowly shepherds ran to Bethlehem, and the Wise Men brought gifts. But the people who knew the Word the best, or thought they did, missed the birth of the Author of the texts they studied. How ironic, how sad, and what a warning to us.
Lord God, we pray for hearts warm to the truth of Christmas. May our knowledge lead us to worship and our worship lead us to joy. Amen.
