Good News: You Will Get Better!

March 13, 2020

Today we wrap up our series on “Big Promises: God Says You Are, You Have, You Can, You Will.” Even though I planned this series long before the Coronavirus outbreak, the Lord knew we needed to review God’s promises this very week. It’s been encouraging to me to share these messages.

The series concludes with a message called “You Will Get Better: God’s Answer to Hopelessness.” It’s based on Paul’s benediction in 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, which ends with the words, “Faithful is the One who calls you—and He will make it happen!”

Sickness will not have the last word.
Death will not win in the end.
Our own weakness will not prevail.

God finishes what he starts. We are going to make it because God has promised we will make it.

What matters is not my strong hold on God but his strong hold on me.

We’re going to be “all right” some day.

We aren’t there yet.
But we will be.
When God is finally finished, we will be like Jesus.

That seems like a good plan to land at the end of a hard week for all of us.

Here is my closing prayer:

Fortify our hearts, Lord Jesus,
To trust you more and more.

Thank you for Big Promises
        That can never be broken.

Lord, with you there is no
        Unfinished business.

Forgive us for doubting your plans.

We look forward to the day when
       Our blemishes will be gone,
       Our weakness removed,
       Our sickness finally healed,
       Our defects disappeared,

And we are finally made like Jesus!

 Help us to keep believing
       Until the day comes when
Our faith is turned to sight.

In that confidence we say,
Even so, Come, Lord Jesus.
