God Never Wastes a Broken Heart

Recently a friend who has struggled mightily with issues of forgiveness wrote to share some things he has learned along the way. I thought his words were worth sharing with you:

God NEVER wastes a broken heart. Whenever you see someone who is heart-broken, you can be absolutely certain that God is doing some major spiritual construction in that person’s life. This is especially true of people who are dealing with a broken heart as a result of rejection by a member of the opposite sex and also people who are dealing with a divorce.

Broken hearts are so painful and are so expensive that God does not give them to people without very good reason. Looking back in my own life, every broken heart that God has given me was given for a very specific purpose. And broken hearts are NEVER an accident. When God breaks your heart, you can be absolutely certain that He intended to break it. And the bigger the broken heart, the more intense the pain, the more extensive the construction is going to be. Take it from someone who knows. 

I would only add that the “specific purpose” of any particular trial will rarely be seen when you are in the midst of the pain. It is only in retrospect that you can begin to trace the outline of God’s purposes, and even then you only see a tiny fraction of all that God intended through the breaking of your heart.
