18 Hours and Counting

October 7, 2010

We leave in less than 18 hours.

After months of prayer and planning, it’s finally time for us to travel to Korea and China. On Friday morning Marlene and I fly to Detroit where we will meet KBM board member Skip Olson who is going with us.

This particular trip really started three years ago when our friends at Word of Life Korea asked if I would be a guest Bible teacher when they opened their new Bible Institute, which they hoped would be in 2008. That didn’t happen. And it didn’t happen last year either. But in the kindness of God, a friend of the ministry made it possible for them to acquire six acres on beautiful Jeju Island, located in the Korea Strait between South Korea and Japan.

Nine months ago they didn’t have any buildings on the property. But in a modern-day miracle, the campus was constructed one building at a time over the spring and summer. On September 24 the first students arrived for the first classes. We’ll spend a week in Korea and then we’ll fly to Dalian, China to spend a few days with Pastor Peter Wang and his congregation. Many of you have been praying for them in recent weeks. Since being forced out of their building by the police, they have been meeting at his home. We look forward to spending time with Peter and his family and with his congregation.

We have just posted an update about our trip to Korea and China with a map showing Jeju Island and Dalian, China.

Here are a few prayer requests:

1. For safety as we travel.
2. For good health and stamina.
3. For God to bless the ministry of his Word.
4. For us to have open hearts to all God has for us.
5. For the Lord to use this trip to encourage Peter and his congregation.
6. For fruitful times of personal ministry with many people.

Here is our basic itinerary:

October 8-9 Travel to Jeju, Island, Korea
October 10 Speak in local church
October 12-15 Teach 1 Peter at the Bible Institute
October 16 Travel to Dalian, China
October 17 Speak to university students
October 18-20 Various events in Dalian
October 21-22 Return to the US

A friend wrote on my Facebook wall, “Praying for you! TWA=Travel With Angels!!” We certainly want to “travel with angels” on this trip because they are unseen protectors of God’s people.

We plan to post daily video updates from our trip on the KBM weblog starting tomorrow. Because of the 14-hour time difference between here and Korea, I can’t say for sure when we’ll post them. But if this works, you’ll be able to get a taste of our trip as we travel to Korea and China.

Thanks for your prayers and your support!
