Deal or No Deal

April 13, 2006

Like approximately 100 million other Americans, Marlene and I have gotten hooked on NBC’s hit show Deal or No Deal. If you haven’t seen the show, I really can’t explain it to you, but it has to with opening suitcases that contain various amounts of money, ranging from 1 cent to $1 million. Contestants have to be both bold and prudent so they know when to stop and when to keep going. Deal or No Deal combines Las Vegas with some heartwarming touches, such as last night when the contestant proposed to his fiance onstage.
Anyway, I’ve got a friend named Thorpe Schoenle. Besides being a Chicago fire fighter, Thorpe and his family attend Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park, and for a year or two he taught computers at Oak Park Christian Academy. A couple of weeks ago, he flew to Hollywood and appeared as a contestant on “Deal or No Deal.” He and his wife Kara had to sign an agreement that they would not reveal anything about how he won on the show, which airs next Monday night at 7 PM. I don’t have a clue how he ended up, but I’m going to be watching to find out.
I only have one question: Thorpe Schoenle, deal or no deal?
