Day 2 at WOLBI

6:48 AM Yesterday a student asked if I had lived in Oak Park. When I told him yes, he said, “Did you ever eat at Mickey’s?” I laughed and told him many times. Mickey’s is a locally-famous hamburger joint on Harlem Avenue in Oak Park. I didn’t tell him that the boys liked it better than I did. (I was partial to Parky’s.) The student mentioned Mickey’s riblet sandwich, which I never tried. I do remember that Mickey’s had a woman behind the counter who took your order, never wrote anything down, and then could shout it all back to the cooks with 100% accuracy.
