China—Day 1

January 17, 2006

3:23 PM Tonight we’re eating supper at Peter’s Tex-Mex Grill, the best Tex-Mex restaurant in Beijing, which is presumably a small category.
3:16 PM We spent last night at the Holiday Inn Chang An West. I think it was a very nice hotel but we were so tired that we didn’t have a chance to enjoy much of it. I started the day at 3:30 AM in Buffalo, and we got to the hotel about 24 hours later. The flight over took about 13 hours on a very crowded plane. We passed the time by watching “The Cinderella Man” (an excellent movie) and “Beethoven 2” (a movie about St. Bernard puppies so I liked it because it reminded me of Dudley).
3:14 PM Our body clocks are way off. Back home this would be 1:15 AM but in Beijing it’s the middle of the afternoon.
3:14 AM Here’s one I knew: What baseball player was known as the Georgia Peach? (Ty Cobb)
3:07 PM We have successfully made it to China. At this moment we’re in our room at the Mac Center on the west side of Beijing. Marlene is resting on the couch, Mark is editing pictures on his computer and Nick is reading Trivial Pursuit questions one after another, including What was Elvis Presley’s middle name? (Aaron) and “How many sides does a nonagon have? (nine) Which foot did Neil Armstrong first put down on the moon? (left)
