Chicago, Here We Come

June 24, 2011

This is what real pizza looks like.

It’s a quick trip this time.

This morning Marlene and I are flying to Chicago for a Keep Believing board meeting. We fly in today, meet with the board tomorrow, and then fly back on Sunday.

More than once we’ve driven up for a board meeting. But as much as I enjoy a long road trip, driving 625 miles on Friday and doing it again on Sunday isn’t much fun.

Maybe I should say driving like that isn’t as much as it used to be.

We’re always glad to be in Chicago, our favorite big city in America. I can remember our first visit back in May of 1989. That was scary because everything about Chicago seemed foreign to me. But in the providence of God, we moved to Chicago (to Oak Park, to be exact about it), and within a year it felt like home to us.

When our friends from Mississippi visit the Windy City, they often ask us for recommendations. Besides things like taking a walk on Michigan Avenue and going to Wrigley Field, I usually tell them to be sure and have a Chicago hot dog and some deep-dish pizza, which is the only real pizza there is. I am completely prejudiced in this matter and cannot be bothered with any other facts, though I have had some excellent New York pizza once or twice.

But I digress.

I’m excited about the board meeting because we’ll be talking about the biggest expansion of our ministry since we started a little over five years ago. Plus we’ll share some stories of what God is doing through KBM, get caught up, and spend time praying together.

We’re packed and just about ready to leave. It’s a lot of travel for one weekend but we’re glad to do it, and happy to be on the road to Chicago once again.
