Carol Kent at the MEF Conference

June 24, 2008

The MEF Bible conference always begins with a Monday seminar that runs from 9 AM-3:15 PM. Yesterday 500 people gathered in a local hotel for the seminar. Carol Kent spoke twice and held us spellbound with the story of how their son was convicted and sent to prison for first-degree murder. You can read about it in her book When I Lay My Isaac Down. Her son, a graduate of the Naval Academy, killed his wife’s ex-husband in a parking lot and at the age of 25 was sentenced to life in prison without parole. He is now serving his sentence in a Florida penitentiary. Carol spoke with emotion yet without bitterness about how God helped her and her husband through the long ordeal of the arrest and trial and continues to teach them about his grace every day. It was a gripping, heart-rending, God-affirming, hope-inspiring presentation. And for what it’s worth, I would put Carol Kent among the best speakers I have ever heard.
