Brimstone for the Broad-Minded

Tim Keller explains how to preach hell in a tolerant age. If we are going to faithfully preach the gospel, we must preach about hell to people who don’t want to hear about it.

The loss of the doctrine of hell and judgment and the holiness of God does irreparable damage to our deepest comforts—our understanding of God’s grace and love and of our human dignity and value to him. To preach the good news, we must preach the bad.

Keller offers four practical guidelines for preaching hell to postmoderns.
Preachers, read Keller and then “man up” to the pulpit and preach the Bad News so that your people will glory in the Good News, and the lost will see their desperate need to run to cross.
