Bible Bus Update–May

May 20, 2009

In January I started my plan to read the entire Bible in 2009. That’s a worthy goal, but it is also a daunting endeavor. My particular version of the Bible has 1913 pages. Plus it contains 66 books written by many different authors over roughly a 1500 year period. And many parts of the Bible seem remote to life in the 21st century. So while it’s easy to start out on this journey, it’s also easy to fall off the “Bible Bus” somewhere along the way.

My own plan has been to read the Bible one book at a time, trying to pick up the flow of the text. I’m aiming for the “big picture,” not the details. So I’ve been reading along at a steady clip, not stopping very often to think about individual passages. I have plenty of commentaries and study Bibles that can help answer my questions.

As of today I have only five books left to read–Genesis, 1 Chronicles, Matthew, Romans and Revelation. I mention this partly for my own accountability and partly to encourage you to get back on the “Bible Bus” if you have fallen off somehwere along the way. There is still plenty of time to read through the Bible this year.
