Anchor Goal Reached!

September 29, 2012

Steve Bury takes a box of Anchors to the UPS store.

Early this year we ordered a new printing of 100,000 copies of An Anchor for the Soul to be distributed to prison ministries, military ministries, crisis pregnancy centers, to outlaw biker gangs, and to rescue missions. We even have some friends who use the books to reach women who work at strip clubs.

A printing of that size costs us about $56,500. That includes the cost of printing, storing and shipping the books. We have a team of volunteers (led by Doreen Mahlstedt and the “two Steves” in Pontiac, IL) who oversee this ministry for us. When we contemplated this new printing, some friends with a burden for evangelism donated $27,500 to help us get started. We ordered the books believing that God would supply the rest of the need. As of a week ago, we had received a little over $42,000.

Then a friend donated mutual fund stock worth $10,000.
Other friends donated $5300.
That gave us over $57,000 in the Anchor Fund.

We thank God for for many friends who gave and many who prayed with us that this need might be met.

If you’d like to know where the books are going, here’s the report for September 2012:

We shipped 86 boxes (100 copies per box) to 21 recipients (18 jails/prison facilities and 3 personal evangelism).  Since May we have shipped 33,600 copies, leaving us a total of 66,700 books in the Anchor Book Depot.

Here are a few places where we shipped copies of Anchor in September:

Pelican Bay State Prison, Crescent City, CA
Mahanoy Correctional Institution, Frackville, PA
Eastern Correctional Institution, Westover, MD
FCI Manchester, Manchester, KY
Baldwin State Prison, Milledgeville, GA
Federal Correctional Institution, Estill, SC
FCI Sheridan, Sheridan, OR
Farmington Correctional Center, Farmington, MO
Formby State Jail, Plainview, TX
Fort Stockton, Fort Stockton, TX
Federal Transfer Center, Oklahoma City,OK
Fountain Correctional Center for Women, Rocky Mount, NC
Edna Mahan Women’s Correctional Facility, Clinton, NY
Hope Helping Others Progress, Houston, TX

We estimate that we will run through the current printing of Anchor within a year. For that reason, we will continue to accept donations to the Anchor Fund so that we can print more copies to give away to more ministries to help more men and women come to Christ.

Thanks for your prayers and your support!
