A few minutes ago Marlene said, “You need to read this letter.” I did, and it made my day. It comes from a inmate named Walter who is doing 25 years to life at a prison in Pennsylvania.

Dear Ray,

First I need to thank you for allowing me to read An Anchor for the Soul. That book has brought me out of the darkness and loneliness I have lived the past 26 years into a love in Christ I never knew existed. In the jail I’m at we can barely get books, let alone a Bible, so I read An Anchor for the Soul and meditate and pray on the Scripture in that book.

I’m doing 25-life, Ray, and man I was scared, but now I have Jesus and a lot of people treat me nice.. There are a lot of Christians here and I thank God for that. The unit I’m in is 23 hrs a day lockdown, but I don’t mind. . . .

Well, I guess that’s about it. Please pray for all of in this prison as I pray for you in my prayers every night.

Your friend in Christ,
Walter

On the cover of the envelope he wrote “1-5-16 Date I was free from sin.”

As I considered the matter, I realized that I have no idea how he got a copy of Anchor. We work with many different prison ministries, and one of them placed the book in his prison. There are always many links in the chain of salvation, but behind it all stands the Lord. I’m glad that the gospel of Jesus is still the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.
