March 15, 2005

1:35 PM John Armstrong explains why homosexuality is a watershed issue for the Christian church:

The danger in our time, as in others, comes down to our understanding of God. Is he the “great approver” who endorses our every moral whim, or is he the Sovereign Creator who calls us to self-denial and obedient faith? The answer our generation gives, in large measure, will determine the spiritual direction and vitality of the Christian church in the West.

1:32 PM Oak Park Christian Academy is hosting an Open House tomorrow (March 16), 8:45-11 AM and 1-2 PM. Click here for more details or call 708/445-3030. 11:49 AM Other blogging news … Congrats to Pastor Brian Bill for his 100th post on his weblog. And Tod Bolsinger explains why every pastor should blog for Christ’s sake. 11:45 AM Pastor Bob Boerman has just joined the blogosphere! Read his first entry here. 10:59 AM At this very moment, I’m showing Pastor Bob how to do a weblog entry. He’s never seen it done before, but soon Bob will blogging all day long! 8:57 AM Calvary 500 Update: Darin Weil reports that so far we have trained 110 people in evangelism this year. That total will more than double by the end of March. Here are two excellent opportunities to be trained in evangelism this week: 1) On Wednesday night I will be teaching a brand-new method of sharing Christ in seven minutes using a unique, interactive tract. It begins with this question: “May I share something with you that someone once shared with me?” The Pastor’s Bible Class meets in the Dining Room at 7 PM. I’ll be giving each person who attends a copy of the tract along with several copies to share with others. Come Wednesday night and learn how to share the gospel in just seven minutes. Duke Heller developed this approach as a means to share Christ in a restaurant or other setting where you don’t have time for a long conversation. 2) First Watch meets for the final time this Thursday morning. Men, if you’ve been thinking about coming, this is your final chance until late September. Join us for a hot breakfast (serving starts at 5:55 AM), a great time of fellowship with other men from Calvary, and the final session on the “Bad News-Good News” gospel presentation. Hint: Special surprise gift for all the men who attend this Thursday morning. 8:50 AM Speaking of blogs, we now have one for Calvary’s new Multi-Site initiative. I expect Pastor Bob to join the blogging revolution any day now. 8:47 AM Blogs are taking over the world! Click here for the details.

Technorati is now tracking over 7.8 million weblogs, and 937 million links. That’s just about double the number of weblogs tracked in October 2004. In fact, the blogosphere is doubling in size about once every 5 months. It has already done so at this pace four times, which means that in the last 20 months, the blogosphere has increased in size by over 16 times.

The article reports that 30,000-40,000 new weblogs are being created every day.
