6:43 AM Michael Medved defends Mel Gibson and The Passion of Jesus Christ. 6:39 AM Here’s a good overview of the controversy over the word “evolution” in Georgia. For those interested in the scientific evidence for creation, here’s the entire online version of a book called Refuting Evolution. 6:34 AM “There is nothing, my friends, that brings out the love of God like the cross of Christ; it tells of the breadth, the length, and the height of his love. If you want to know how much God loves you, you must go to Calvary to find out” (D. L. Moody). Our church used to be called Madison Street Bible Church. The name was changed to Calvary Memorial Church in 1959 under the leadership of Pastor Bob Gray. When I was in Florida preaching to the missionaries several weeks ago, one of them asked, “What is your church a memorial to?” Good question. There is Moody Memorial Church and Johnson Memorial and Wesley Memorial and King Memorial, etc. When I asked Pastor Gray that same question a few years ago, he told me the name was chosen so that our church would be a memorial to Jesus Christ and his death on the cross. May it always be true that when people think of Calvary, they will think not only of a church, but of Jesus who died for them. That gives new meaning to Moody’s words: “If you want to know how much God loves you, you must go to Calvary to find out.”
