March 3, 2005

9:46 PM Tonight we hosted eight or nine Chinese students (and their Calvary hosts) at our home. The students and hosts are all part of our International Friends ministry. Three or four of the students came from Beijing, two came from Shanghai, and the others came from other parts of China. I think they are all graduate students. Several of them are working on their Ph.D. degrees at UIC. Our miniature Schnauzer Dixie turned out to be a big hit. One of the students said she had never touched a dog before. Special thanks to Daniel and Cherise Ward for setting it up. Other hosts included Dwight and Betty Nelson, Ed and Liz Papierski and Betsy Kauffman. Mark jumped right in and had some great conversations about his year in China that starts in August. I asked a couple of the students to translate the Scripture verses on the scrolls we purchased in Beijing. Some of the students have to various special programs at the church. The International Friends ministry is friendship evangelism at its best. It’s clear that the students have become close to their host couples. 9:45 PM Sunday shout-out to John and Barb Tahl. John asked me this morning what a “shout-out” is. It’s just a friendly way to say hello.
