The big day has finally arrived. Nick graduates from Oak Park-River Forest High school at 3 PM today. As I walked to church this morning, I felt a strange mix of emotions—happiness, sadness, excitement, and something else that I can’t quite define—something wistful about the passage of time. Several of the people who came to his party last night said to me, “Congratulations,” as if I had done something noteworthy. We’re hoping for good weather so the ceremonies can be held in the football stadium this afternoon. Right now it looks like we’ll be in the fieldhouse instead.
