10:02 PM Playing a doubleheader in sweltering heat this afternoon, the Calvary softball won their first game, defeating St. Giles 2-0. In the second game, they ran into a buzzsaw as New Life (the # 1 team) cruised to a victory that was “something like” 14-1 or maybe it was 14-2. No one was sure. But we definitely won the first game, pushing our record to 1-4. We managed to qualify for the playoffs, which start next weekend. 7:22 AM The Calvary softball team will have two chances to win their first game this afternoon. We play St. Giles around “twoish” I was told, and then we play the # 1 team again. The games are played at Amundsen Park, 6200 W Bloomingdale Ave, Chicago. From Oak Park, go north on Austin Blvd past North Avenue. The second street past North will be Bloomingdale. Turn left (west) on Bloomingdale, the park is a half-block in on your right. 7:20 AM It’s hot, hot, hot in Oak Park. The temps are expected to push through the 100-degree mark this afternoon with a heat index 10 degrees higher. To help you cool off, check out these ten great swimming holes.
