10:45 AM Nick and John Mark Edwards are in Memphis with my brother Alan where at this moment they are at the Liberty Bowl stadium to watch the Ole Miss-Memphis football game. Nick and John Mark drove from Birmingham to Tupleo yesterday, then on to Memphis with Alan last night. They stayed at the famous Peabody Hotel, visited Beale Street (Nick said it was crowded with football fans), and got to bed about 2 AM. When I called Nick an hour ago, I asked him what they were doing. “We’re on our way to see the Rebels play,” he replied. I think his college career is off to a good start. 10:41 AM Looking ahead to tomorrow, the choir returns to the Traditional Service after their summer break. We will observe the Lord’s Supper in all four services. And I’ll be preaching the first sermon in the Legacy Campaign series: “They gave themselves first to the Lord”: Why giving begins with the heart, not the pocketbook, from 2 Corinthians 8:1-5. 10:37 AM Tom and Sharon Nutter wrote the Living Sacrifices devotional for today, based on Philippians 4:19, “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Here’s an excerpt:

If we, like Paul, are to share the message with the world that “God will supply all your needs,” we must first acknowledge—and not merely give lip service to—having needs and then be willing to bet our lives that all else is rubbish compared to knowing Him.”
