4:12 PM Heating update: John Sredl informs me that the boiler is working and we have heat in the east wing and the sanctuary. However, the west wing is still without heat and will be without heat tomorrow, due to a cord that was cut during the renovation. We’ll get it fixed next week but the west wing will be slightly cool tomorrow morning. The outside temperature is warming up, which is good news. 3:15 PM Davis Duggins called with the good news that the heat is now on at the church. The workers put in extra hours to get one of the boilers up and running. Special thanks to John Sredl and Mark Todd for making it happen in time for Sunday. 3:14 PM College football: Ole Miss defeats Florida 20-17. Huge upset, esp. since the Rebels were playing at Florida. Mark and Nick both called to talk about the game and my brother Andy called from Florence, AL to celebrate over the phone. Now we’re settled in to see if the Cubs can finish off the Braves. 8:27 AM The October prayer guide includes this note for today: “May God bless the churches nearby … Chinese Bible Church, First Baptist of Oak Park, Forest Park Baptist, Harrison Street Bible, Judson Baptist, River Forest Presbyterian, Rock of our Salvation, Vineyard Christian Fellowship, Woodside Bible Chapel.” I would also add Fellowship Christian Church, Immanuel Bible Church, Elmwood Park Bible Church and Grace Lutheran Church. The prayer guide asks us to pray for Robert and Kathleen Burdett, missionaries with InterVarsity: “Please continue to pray for Robert during his time of sabbatical. Pray for refreshment and retooling as he prepares to continue his ministry to college students.” We’re also praying for our youth ministry team: Craig and Megan Hammond, Darin Weil, Betty Dylong and Cindy Todd. 8:25 AM Ron Scates, pastor of Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, delivered the sermon for today, Sticks and Stones.
