7:49 PM Quick note at the end of a good day. Much cooler today, which was most welcomed after the sweltering heat of the last few days. Marlene and I took a bike ride this AM, I rode again by myself this afternoon… . My postings at home are less frequent because our DSL service is out because the portable phone fell behind the computer and somehow the DSL wires got pulled loose and nothing we have done so far has restored the service. So I’m using a backup dial-up service, which I thought about canceling a few months ago but now I’m glad I didn’t. We’ve got three or four computers all jury-rigged up through a router and a hub and wires hanging from the ceiling in the basement. Nick and Josh have tried to restore the service but nothing so far. It’s amazing how quickly we grow dependent on technology. Nine years ago I thought dial-up access at 14.4 was wonderful. Now I’m frustrated at having to dial up at all. I’ve grown accustomed to sitting down at my computer and surfing the Net at any hour of the day or night.
